Just to date myself, I’ll announce that seven years ago, I graduated High School. This weekend, my youngest sister, Francesca, graduated, and so did her best friend, Brigid. They grew up together, living in the same neighborhood since they were born. I’ve known Brig just about as long as I’ve known Frankie. I’ve seen them grow up together, now they taking separate paths, just like Sara and Adele.

My best friend Allison and I took separate paths seven years ago, but we’ve stayed close. She’s someone I talk to about jobs, love, everything. She’s always there and I’m glad I have her. I can see these girls going down that path too.

Even if it’s not always the same as it was, it’s a friendship bigger than that.

This year’s Sundance film festival has seen a resurgence of acquisitions activity. It seems that distributors are willing to take on riskier films again, and they are even partnering with equity to put up P and A costs for the film. It’s very exciting and inspiring for us as we are in the edit process of NWBD. We still have a ways to go, the post process is long, but we’re so happy to see other small films getting out there.

Another great indie film success this week is the Oscar Nominations. A slew of last year’s Sundance films made the cut for best picture and best documentary, Winter’s Bone, The Kids are Alright, and Exit Through the Gift Shop. Hopefully this will instill more faith in distributors that people want to see great stories. The box office numbers from this year have reflected this as well. The two nominations of Jennifer Lawrence and Hailee Steinfeld for best actress show us they want to see great fresh talent too. It also comes on the heels of the release of the Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman headlined No Stings Attached, it was not a pretty sight. People want to see good stories, so hopefully the distributors will give the people what they want and independent film will continue it’s resurgence.

If you want to follow along with the Sundance Sales read this.
